RADNORSHIRE SCHOOLS TO COMPETE FOR WILDLIFE QUIZ TROPHY

Children from Whitton and Presteigne Schools

What male creature gets pregnant and carries his babies in a pouch in his stomach? If you don’t know the answer, ask the children at your local school - there’s a good chance that they will.

Primary school pupils across Radnorshire are polishing up their knowledge of wildlife in readiness for the Radnorshire Wildlife Trust’s Wildlife Quiz 2006

The Trust launched the quiz last spring. After a close contest with local rivals Presteigne, the 2005 trophy went to Whitton, where it stays until challenged next year.

For the 2006 contest the RWT has got many more Radnorshire schools signed up to take part.

The first round of the contest involves area-based quizzes, where local schools compete with their neighbours. The winning schools then go through to fight the county semi-finals.

The championship will be decided at the Big Quiz Final, to be held at the Trust’s Nature Discovery Centre at Gilfach.

The Wildlife Trust invites any school who has not yet signed up for the quiz to ring 01597 823928 or send an e-mail. The quiz organiser can visit your school and give you all the information you need to prepare for battle.

By the way, the answer is a seahorse!
