While the quiz organiser,
the Wildlife Trust’s People and Wildlife Officer Suzie Fraser,
totted up the final scores, the competitors relieved the tension
with chocolate cake and squash.
All was hushed as Iolo announced
the results. All four teams had gained high scores, but the champions
were Knighton – by
just two points from runners-up Newbridge. Knighton
gain the right to hold the Baughan Trophy for the year – a
leaping salmon beautifully carved from Gilfach hawthorn. They
immediately christened this Sam Salmon!
Presenting certificates
and prizes to all the
teams, Iolo told them how impressed he was with their knowledge.
He said that when he was a boy his classmates had thought him
strange because he was interested in wildlife. He only got away
with it
because he was a big lad for his age!
The quiz aims to enthuse children and increase
their understanding of wildlife. The Radnorshire Wildlife Trust
is grateful for the support of the Countryside Council for Wales
for the quiz through its Partnership Programme with the Trust. |
