Our 20th Anniversary Party and major fundraising event for 2007
will come at the close of Wildlife Week on 23rd June 2007. We have
been generously offered the use of the Cefndyrys Estate at Llanelwedd,
the home of Nina and Carlos Laborde, for this special occasion.
The afternoon session will be officially opened by Lord Richard
Livsey at 2.30 pm and there will be choral entertainment, displays,
guided
walks, quizzes (with prizes), stalls and a Chinese auction. During
the afternoon the Anniversary cake will be cut and offered with
a glass of wine. Drinks and light refreshments (sandwiches and
salads)
will be available for purchase all day long.
The day itself will be starting at 11 am, when we are hoping
to take full advantage of this wonderful offer of using Cefndyrys,
to set
up a biodiversity recording project that will continue into the
future. For this we have enlisted the help of three experts, our
own Ray
Woods, Richard Knight and Dr Fred Slater, who will be guiding and
informing teams of volunteers so that everything can be recorded.
The pine woods, shrubby land, cultivated gardens, grazed fields,
ponds, yards, barns and much more will produce a diversity of species
that will help the RWT to widen its knowledge and monitor changes
over the coming years. In return we can perhaps offer advice for
managing the estate with conservation in mind, while remembering
that it has to pay its way.
For the evening you will be offered the opportunity to have a
hot supper sitting at tables on the terrace admiring the view,
dining
in the marquee or eating indoors should the weather become inclement.
There will be an entrance fee of £5 if you book in advance
and £6 if you pay at the door on the day (accompanied children
free). This will include a glass of wine (for the adults!) and
a slice of cake. Tickets for the hot supper (which must be booked
by
June 20th) cost an extra £5. The programme, supper menu
and further details of this exciting day will be available after
May
1st. If you would like to volunteer your services, offer prizes
or gifts (bottles, cakes, bric-a-brac etc.) or make any enquiries
please
contact the RWT office or ring me
on 01982 560490.
